VIVO IPL 2018: 5 Foreigner Debutants to look out for!

10. Parthiv Patel

Patel had a great IPL 2017 where he emerged as the highest scorer for Mumbai Indians for the season scoring 395 runs at an average of 25. He was one of the unsung heroes of the 2017 season, as he wasn’t retained even after his best season in all the IPL.

He gave Mumbai Indians quick starts, sky rocket-ting the run-rate right from the start alongside Jos Buttler. Parthiv never settled on one specific franchise as he kept hopping around as he was in 6 different franchises. He is a reserve keeper in the Indian test squad, and he will be hoping that two great seasons in a row may land him in the ODI squad.

9. Ravindra Jadeja

The left-handed all-rounder was one of the players who we once thought would never be replaced. He was bowling well, his batting was decent. But due to the IPL effect, there were players like Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya who threatened his place in the ODI and T20I side.

Even though he isn’t picked in the ODI or the T20I side, he is still a great asset in the red ball cricket. He currently ranks No.2 in the Test All-Rounders category and No.3 in Test Bowler’s list. He will look to perform well and increase the chances of his comeback in the white ball team.

8. Imran Tahir

The South-African wrist spinner is currently ranked No.6 in the ODI bowler’s ranking and No.7 in the T20I bowler’s ranking. Even though the rankings suggest he should be in great form, however, that’s not the case. The leggie failed to take any wicket against India in the ODI series even though India’s Chahal and Kuldeep were taking wickets at an average of 10. Tahir was rested for the T20Is against India, as he went to play PSL.

There he took 13 wickets in 10 innings and ranked 7 among the highest wicket-takers in PSL 2018. Tahir will certainly be looking to duplicate the same performance in the VIVO IPL 2018 and restore the faith the selectors have in him.

7. Lokesh Rahul/K.L.Rahul

The Indian opener had a great T20I series against SriLanka where he scored at an average of over 40. Even after his tremendous performance, it was all in vain as Shikhar Dhawan returned to the squad and was is in the form of his life ever since. The No.4 position for India is still empty with the hopes of Rahane to be filling it.

Rahul has an opportunity in the VIVO IPL 2018, is he has a stellar season he will certainly solidify his position in the T20I team, although as a reserve opener, same goes for the ODI squad.

6. Glenn Maxwell

The Australian batting all-rounder was picked up by the Delhi Daredevils for a whopping 9Cr contract as the moment his name popped up, there began a bidding warfare which landed the Aussie a big contract. Although the Big Show is an automatic entry in the T20I side of Australia he isn’t always included in the Playing XI for the ODIs.

Amongst the ball-tampering incident, and the 1 year of a ban of former Australian captain Steven Smith and former Vice-Captain David Warner, Maxxie was added to the test squad as a replacement. This could also result in Maxwell’s entry in the ODI XI. He will be looking to make the most of the upcoming season of the VIVO IPL.

5. Suresh Raina

The legend of the IPL Suresh Raina will be looking to make the most out this season, although he has scored 300+ runs in every season of the IPL, this season will be very crucial for him to make his ODI comeback. Raina was dropped from the national side because of a failed Yo-Yo test, which is a standard fitness test in cricket.

After months of hard work and training and a blistering 100 in the Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament, he came back to the Indian side after passing the Yo-Yo test. He is also a handy right-arm spinner and India will hope that the left-handed batsman will fill the No.4 position in the ODI as all eyes will be on Suresh Raina this season of the VIVO IPL 2018.

4. Andre Russell

The West-Indian all-rounder was retained by the Kolkata Knight Riders due to his mastery in both the bowling and batting department. He can take away the game any moment. Andre Russell is coming back after 12-14 months as he was banned for a year due to a doping violation.

His planned comeback in PSL 2018 was crushed due to a minor injury, although he will be available for the IPL.

Even though he lacks match practice, he and Kolkata Knight Riders would be hoping that Russell won’t be rusty and does well for them. Even if he has a decent season for his franchise, he may come back to his national side, as things aren’t looking good for the Windies.

3. Robin Uthappa

The batsman will be dawning the purple jersey again as he will look to lead KKR alongside captain Dinesh Karthik as a Vice-Captain. The Karnatakan wicket-keeper has been in and out of the national side. Although a string of poor scores led to selectors having less faith in him.

He would be hoping to earn back their trust and scores a few runs in the upcoming season of the VIVO IPL 2018. He has scored 350+ runs in all the seasons counting from IPL 2012. In the last season, he scored 388 runs for KKR at the average of 30 which included a total of 5 fifties.

2. Chris Gayle

The universal boss was always the RCB’s X-Factor ever since he was bought by them. His first 3 seasons for RCB saw him score 600+ runs at an average well over 65. Then he saw a bit of dip in form in the IPL 2014. But the Gayle Storm arrived again in the IPL 2015 where he scored 491 runs at an average of 40. But the next 2 seasons were a disappointment for the big man, as he was struggling.

He went unsold twice in the IPL Auction 2018 until KXIP bought him the third time he was presented. Gayle scored a couple of the fifties in the recent World Cup 2019 qualifiers and he will be looking to carry the form into IPL 2018 as he looks to cement his place in the Windies side for the World Cup 2019.

1. Ravichandran Ashwin

Similar to Jadeja, the India off-spinner has lost his place in the ODI and T20I side, although he continues to be a prominent member of the test squad. Due to the arrival of the likes of Chahal, Kuldeep, and Axar, Ashwin will find it difficult to break into the ODI side.

The South-Indian bowler was picked up by KXIP and was also appointed as their captain. Ashwin is trying his very best to break into the Indian team, as he has started bowling leg-spin to add more weapons to his arsenal. If he succeeds with this plan in the VIVO IPL 2018 he will certainly impress the selectors.

CONCLUSION

Concluding this long article, I would like to make some honorable mentions. Kedar Jadhav, Corey Anderson, and Shreyas Iyer almost made it in the list.
